Subject:My name causes national security alerts. The Commercial
Posted by:malehijab.
Time:12:49 am.

Thank you yet again to "Ben Thal":http://myspace.com/bejaru for his night-long production of this, the first HijabMan commercial. I also appreciate him allowing me to use his music towards the end. Oh, and for convincing me to order those chicken wings and pineapple-topped pizza at 3 AM a couple nights ago. It totally hit the spot, man.

Also check out the "store":http://www.hijabman.com/store for 4 a few new shirts posted, as well as some bumper stickers towards the bottom!

Look for more ads in the coming weeks! Feel free to share this one in the meantime.

"Does the fact that we are selling, thus encouraging the consumption of unhealthy foods run contrary to what seems to be our favorite slogan, “Islam isn’t a religion; it’s a way of life”? If Islam is a [good] way of life, why is it that we sell high-fructose corn syrup laced with artificial colors and flavors in our places of worship?!"

In class I make comments in regards to the war for the moderate muslim, that there is a tug of war of sorts going on that is never given enough attention. American media is pretty useless, they've become spokespeople for the Bush adminstration. Articles are filled with "officials said," "the President said."

The truth is out there, but we have to look for it ourselves. Case in point: Iraq. All these roadside bombings...tragic.

Even more so is

We would never have known any of this had it not been for the brave local journalist. I'm 20. I'm jaded. I read too much of this, watch too much. It is numbing stuff, seriously.

What are your thoughts on this? And where should the Muslim world go from here?

Subject:Islamic Clothing
Posted by:styphon.
Time:3:41 pm.
Most muslims are sunni and believe Islam is from three sources, from highest to lowest: The Quran, Hadith(Sayings of the prophet), and Sunnah (Traditions of the prophet). Because of this, people of other cultures adopt arab style greetings, sayings, and clothing.
I wonder what people in America think about this when they see a white european american in a dishdasha:

What about Islamic traditional headwear?

This second one I don't think anyone would have a problem because they are so out of it they don't understand that its not a fashion invention from 2001. I've seen Justin Timberlake, Paula Abdul, Nas, and fifty cent wear these muslim caps.

I know that Jeffery Lang, american convert who has written a few books on Islam on america, sees it as foolish. He believes that American converts must fit Islam to their culture(To muslims: I do not think he means Bid'ah), which he explains in "Even Angels ask".

Would it be pretenious to wear full Islamic/arab dress? Would it be useless, as it may signal that I am promoting a specific cultural ideal instead of true Islamic ideals? Does it even matter what nonbelievers think of my clothing choices?

Subject:Dear Ummah
Posted by:bodhicide.
Time:12:51 am.
Dear Ummah:
They're cartoons. Offensive cartoons made by bigots. So what? We're not the only group to get made fun of. Christians and Jews and pagans have been calling Muhammad a false prophet since Muhammad's own time, peace be upon him, they've called him a terrorist, they've even called him a paedophile. So what's the big deal about a cartoon where Muhammad has a turban that looks like a bomb, or whatever? This isn't even one of the most offensive things they've done. Obviously this isn't idolatry, because they're making fun of him. And depiction of the Prophet, alone, is nothing new at all. The Shiah do it, and I've seen many artistic depictions of Rasulullah, with or without the flame covering his head. So no, this is NOT about idolatry. This is about a hissy fit.
The Muslim community has bigger things to worry about, and they're mostly problems originating within Islam, but we seem unwilling to deal with those problems. We just complain and moan about little things, like this, or Amina Wadud's woman led prayer, or Nike having a logo that superficially resembled the name of Allah. Iran's holocaust comic idea is disgusting.
There was a woman, who every day used to throw FECES, that's right, human waste, on Rasulullah. She used to THROW FECES ON OUR BELOVED PROPHET, and one day, she didn't. Do you know what Muhammad did? He went and checked on her to see if she was okay. He didn't kill her or yell threats or even insult her. He checked on her, because he was a kind man, and he expects us to be kind too. She was so moved by that that her perceptions of him changed and she accepted Islam. Muhammad isn't here now. He can't go offer peace to these people and those who support them. We are supposed to follow his example though. So, when you see these people throwing feces on our Prophet, don't throw insults at them. Be a kind person, like Muhammad. Follow his example, and change their perception of Islam.
A concerned fellow Muslim,

It's a little bit long, but there's some great info well into the middle of the article.

I don't know yet what to make of this man,Ray Hanania, (Arab journalist/comedian) because some of his views are in my opinion incorrect (like his view on how Christian Arabs are oppressed by Muslim Arabs) but he is for world peace, and of course, I like that. And his comedy is so true and hilarious... And he's all for promoting peace between Jews and Arabs, and hey... who in their right mind wouldn't want that??

I'm just interested in what you all think.

Posted by:broodmood.
Time:9:17 am.
no one has posted here in ages... salaaaaams everyone.

homosexuality- how do you feel about it??? is it haram/halal or just disliked in your eyes???

i have a lot of gay friends (including ones that are Muslim) who are amazing people and it's too hard for me to believe that they are "destined for Jahannam" simply because they are gay. i struggle with this issue a lot because i believe so heavily in gay rights and the rights of all human beings to be happy and live their lives in peace.

i feel blessed for sure that i am hetero because it is not easy to be gay in this world. this is not to say that i think it is a curse from Allah to be gay- PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT I AM NOT SAYING THAT. i would never make a judgement call like that because it is obviously something only God could determine, not us humans. i am just saying that it is so much easier and accpetable to be hetero even in today's "modern" world.

so anyhow- what are your thoughts?

also- do you think homosexuality and heterosexuality are predetermined at birth, or that they are choices? nature vs. nurture???

People in our community get intimidated and interrogated by Feds often!

If you want to do your part to help us understand how the FBI intimidates and interrogates American citizens, join feds_are_speds. A place to share personal accounts of racial profiling, interrogation, intimidation and relevant news stories

This way we can better understand how to deal with, and potentially put an end to the thousands of interrogations ment to terrorize and divide our ethnic/religious communities.

Subject:Punjabi Punk baby!
Posted by:bedhoppngothboi.
Time:5:24 am.
I'm hoping this post is appropriate for this community...
So let us reintroduce ourselves.. we are The Kominas, an all Punjabi punk band. We just completed 2 more songs. First is a rerecording of our first single, "Rumi was a Homo". The track is a total Anti-hatred explosion of Gayness. A lot of flamboyance, you can definetly tell our Guitarist is a Pathan! It's a playful and flirtatious jab at the bigot Siraj Wahaj, who said he'd burn down a Gay Mosque as soon as it was built... And also a little uppercut on Asma Hasan (Muslims for Bush - ew).

Then there's a goofy ISNA RAWK tune, based on a Bismillah rhyme we learned at the age of 5. Hopefully you'll dig the tunes... Give them a listen by clicking on this banner:

Click on banner above to listen to the new Kominas recordings..

We'll hopefully be playing out some time this summer! We've got drummers and dhol players to try out! Baley Baley Oi Oi Oi!

Subject:Seven Random Ahaadeeth Concerning Good Behavior and Respecting Others
Posted by:___tigris.
Time:8:45 pm.
Abu Hurairah (r.a.) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w.s.) said: “You shall not enter paradise so long as you do not affirm belief (in all those things which are the articles of faith) and you will not believe as long as you do not love one another. Should I not direct you to a thing which, if you do, will foster love amongst you? Give currency to the practice of paying salutation to one another by saying As-Salamu Alaykum”. (Muslim 96)

Abu Hurairah (r.a.) narrated that the Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said: “Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the worst of false tales. Do not look for the others’ faults and do not spy (watch a person undercover). Do not be jealous of one another, and do not desert (cut your relations with) one another, and do not hate one another. And O Allah’s worshippers! Be brothers, as Allah has ordered you!” (Bukhari, Vol. 8, Hadith 90 and Muslim 4:6214-6218)

Al-Mughira ibn Subah narrated that the Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said: “Allah has forbidden you to be undutiful to your mothers, to withhold what you should give or demand what you do not deserve, and to bury your daughters alive. And Allah has disliked that you talk too much about others, ask too many questions (in religion), or waste your property.” (Bukhari, Vol. 8, Hadith 6; also see Vol. 3, Hadith 591)

Abu Hurairah (r.a.) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w.s.) said, “Anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day should not harm his neighbor, and anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day should entertain his guest generously, and anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day should talk what is good or keep quiet (i.e. abstain from all kinds of evil and dirty talk).” (Bukhari, 8/47)

Abu Hurairah (r.a.) reported that Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w.s.) said: “Do you know what is backbiting?” They, the Companions, said: “Allah and His Messenger (s.a.w.s.) know best.” Thereupon he, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.), said: “Backbiting implies your talking about your brother in a manner which he does not like.” It was said to him: “What is your opinion about this, if I actually find that weakness in my brother which I made mention of?” He said: “If that failing is actually found in him what you assert, you in fact backbite him; and if that is not, it is a slander.” (Muslim Vol. 4, Hadith 6265)

Abu Umamah (r.a.) narrated that the Messenger (s.a.w.s.) of Allah said: “He who appropriated the right of a Muslim by swearing a false oath, Allah would make Hell-fire necessary for him and would declare Paradise forbidden for him.” A person said to him: “Messenger (s.a.w.s.) of Allah, even if it is something insignificant?” He (the Prophet) replied: “(Yes) even if it is the twig of the arak tree.” (Muslim 1/252)

‘Abdullah (r.a.) narrated that the Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “Truthfulness leads to Al-Birr (righteousness) and Al-Birr leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a Siddiq (truthful person). Falsehood leads to Al-Fujur (i.e., wickedness, evil-doing), and Al-Fujur leads to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, a liar.” (Bukhari Vol. 8, Hadith 116 and Muslim Vol. 4, Hadith 6307-6310)

Subject:in the news right now

Mood: shocked.

Hello everyone. I've never posted here before but just learned of something I'd like to share...and rant about.

Anyone hear of how the US soldiers had some good ol' fun throwing the Holy Quran around in front of prisoners suspected of being AL-Qaeda members? I’m sickened, absolutely appalled. Condoleeza Rice decides to formally apologize to all the Muslims in the US and around the world.

...excuse me, please, while I throw up.

How dare anyone even think this is what they should do? WHAT the hell did those morons hope to accomplish by doing this? This is yet another indication of why the Muslim world is distrustful of the west, because incidents like this happen. *cough Abu Ghraib cough*

The fact of the matter is this: if these people do not have respect for the Quran it means plain and simple they have zero respect for Muslims. If these people are the representation of America, they’re doing a pretty crappy job, I’d say.

EDIT: It's been pointed out to me that actually they're doing a good job... they are showing their true colors by doing so...

There are protests all over the mid-east, all the way to Afghanistan over this. The Saudi government has come out with a statement saying they are “following this with deep indignation.”

This should make every Muslim saddened and upset.

Time:8:27 pm.
hey, salaam everyone...

i was curious if anyone else ever runs into this situation, and if so what do you do???

here is the situation i'm referring to:

have you ever found some other Muslims very rude in their response when you offer salaam to them? what i mean is, i, being a sister, have offered my salaam to many another sister, and found their return of salaam to be very begrudging and almost cold in its delivery. this really irritates the hell out of me, especially since we all know that it is our OBLIGATION and our RIGHT to give and receive salaams to and from other Muslims of the same gender. now i am not saying every returned salaam i get is cold or begrudging, but oftentimes, i find it is. not only that, but i'm nearly always the initial one to offer the greeting in the first place!!!! grrrrrr!!! SO rude!!!!

anyway, in all honesty, sometimes when this happens, i really feel like being bitchy back to them (sorry, Allah, i know that's not good), but i never do act that way back. i just bite my lip and move on.

how do you handle it??? does it annoy you too???

thanks, and WA' SALAAM :-) *big smile*
